Sleights is one of the larger villages in the Esk Valley, and we clear a steady number of homes here. It is about 3 miles from Whitby, so a visit to look at the property is easy to arrange if photos are not enough.
The houses vary a lot, which is why we don't use a one-size price. A post-war bungalow with a single garage is a very different job from a Victorian stone house with cellar, attic and a long garden, and our quotes reflect that.
A little about Sleights
Sleights runs from the River Esk, where there is a station on the Esk Valley line, up the hillside along the A169, the main road to Pickering. South of the village the road climbs steeply up Blue Bank onto the moors, and much of Sleights itself is on a slope. The village has shops, a school and a mix of housing, including older stone terraces near the main road and a good number of bungalows and semi-detached homes built later in the twentieth century.
The kind of homes we clear here
Bungalows are common in Sleights, and they are often the homes of older residents. When someone moves into care or passes away, families ask us to clear the lot, from furniture and kitchen contents to the garage and garden shed. We also clear family houses being sold, rented homes between tenants, and occasional cottages near the river.
Services we are asked for most often here include:
- House clearance after a bereavement, carried out at a pace that suits the family
- Probate clearances where an executor needs the property emptied for sale
- General rubbish and junk removal after a clear-out the family has started themselves
- Garden clearing, including old greenhouses and sheds
Access on the A169 and side streets
The A169 is a busy through road, and homes directly on it need careful planning so that loading does not hold up traffic. Many side streets are steep, and some houses have steps up from the road. We look at photos or visit first, then decide on the vehicle, the number of people and the best time of day.
If there is a drive, a lay-by or somewhere off the road we can use, tell us when you get in touch. It usually shortens the job.
Sorting with care
We sort everything as it comes out. Documents, photographs, jewellery and anything that looks personal are set aside for you. Furniture and household goods in good condition go for reuse or donation, and metal, wood, cardboard and electricals are separated for recycling. Only what cannot be saved goes for disposal, with paperwork provided. We keep waste transfer paperwork for every job, and you are always welcome to ask to see our waste carrier registration before we start.
Families often start sorting a house themselves and then run out of time or energy. We are happy to finish off whatever is left, however much or little that is.
What happens next
Send photos of each room, the loft and any outbuildings through our quote form, or ring 07795 010 224. We'll give you a fixed, no-obligation price, and if you'd like us to visit there is no call-out fee. We then agree a date that suits you, including weekends by arrangement, and leave the property swept and tidy when we finish.
