Goathland is about 7 miles south-west of Whitby in a straight line, up on the moors off the A169. We clear homes in the village and on the farms and hamlets around it, and we are used to the particular demands of working in such an open, rural spot.
Whether it is a full house, a holiday cottage being refitted or a barn that has not been emptied in years, we give you a fixed price first and stick to it.
A little about Goathland
Goathland is a moorland village in the North York Moors National Park, spread out around wide grassy greens. Sheep graze freely on the verges and through the village itself, and the North York Moors Railway has a station here, with steam trains running between Pickering, Grosmont and Whitby. The village became familiar to television viewers as the setting for the series Heartbeat, and the Mallyan Spout waterfall is a short walk away. Houses are mostly stone-built, set well apart, with farms and holiday cottages on the surrounding moor.
Working in a moorland village
A few things shape how we plan a Goathland clearance:
- Livestock on the roads. Sheep wander freely, so we drive slowly and take extra care when reversing or loading near the greens.
- Visitors. The station and village are busy on summer weekends and during railway events. Weekday dates are usually quieter.
- Weather. The roads up onto the moor can be affected by snow and ice in winter. If conditions are unsafe, we will contact you to rearrange.
- Distance between buildings. Farms may have outbuildings some way from the house, which we allow for in the time and the quote.
What we clear here
Much of our Goathland work falls into three kinds of job. The first is the family home, cleared after a death or a move into care, where our compassionate bereavement clearances let families work at their own pace. The second is the holiday let, where owners need furniture and furnishings removed before a refit or a sale, often handled with our furniture collection service. The third is the farm or smallholding, with sheds, stores and barns to empty, covered by our outbuilding clearance.
We can also remove general household waste, garden rubbish and bulky items as part of any of these.
Sorting and disposal
Personal and important items are always set aside: photographs, letters, deeds, bank papers, jewellery and keepsakes. Everything else is sorted into what can be reused or donated, what can be recycled, and what has to be disposed of. You receive paperwork for the waste we remove. We keep waste transfer paperwork for every job, and you are always welcome to ask to see our waste carrier registration before we start.
If you are not nearby
Many owners of Goathland properties live elsewhere. We can pick up keys from a neighbour, key safe, estate agent or solicitor, and keep you updated with photos. Anything we set aside can be kept safe until you are able to collect it or arrange for it to be sent on.
Photos of the property, any outbuildings and the lane or track leading to it help us give an accurate fixed quote without needing to visit.
Your free quote
To get started, request your quote online or call 07795 010 224. Quotes are free, with no obligation, and we don't charge a call-out fee for a visit. The price we quote is the price you pay. We'll agree a date that suits you, including weekends by arrangement, and the property will be left swept and tidy.
Goathland is one of several moorland villages we serve between Whitby and Pickering. See our service area for the others.
