House Clearance in Robin Hood's Bay

Robin Hood's Bay clearances need planning. Vehicles stop at the top of a very steep bank, so everything in the old village is carried. We quote and plan every job with that in mind.

  • Local to Whitby

Robin Hood's Bay is about 5 miles south of Whitby, and it is one of the most demanding places on the coast to clear a house. In the old village, known locally as Bay Town, you cannot simply pull up outside and load. Cars stop at the top of the bank and everything has to be carried, often up steep paths and steps.

We price that into a fixed quote from the start, and we bring the people and the planning needed to do it safely.

A little about Robin Hood's Bay

The old fishing village runs down a very steep bank to the shore, its cottages packed tightly along narrow lanes, yards and flights of steps. It has a long reputation for smuggling. There is no public parking at the bottom, and visitors leave their cars in the car parks at the top of the village, near the Victorian houses that grew up around the former railway station on the Scarborough to Whitby line. Many cottages in the old village are holiday lets or second homes, and access to most of them is on foot only.

Top of the bank or Bay Town?

The Victorian and later houses at the top of the village can usually be cleared much like any other home, with a van close by. In Bay Town, the planning is very different. We will want to know:

  • Exactly where the cottage is, and how many steps there are between it and the road
  • The size of the doors, stairs and passageways
  • Whether large items like wardrobes, sofas and beds can be taken apart
  • Any deadlines, such as a sale completion or the next holiday booking

Heavy loads are carried up the bank in stages. It takes longer than a normal clearance and needs more people, and our quote reflects that honestly.

Holiday cottages and family homes

Owners of holiday lets often ask us to remove tired furniture, mattresses and soft furnishings before a refit, using our furniture removal service, or to empty a cottage completely before sale. Families clearing a relative's home can use our bereavement clearance, where personal items are set aside and the pace is set by you. For executors, we offer a probate clearance that fits your timetable, and we can clear sheds and yards with our garden clearance.

Damp, salt and old cottages

Cottages close to the sea can suffer from damp, and items stored in cellars, sheds and lofts may be mouldy or damaged. We handle these properly and dispose of anything spoiled safely, while still saving what can be reused.

Everything else is sorted: reuse and donation first, then recycling, then disposal with paperwork. We keep waste transfer paperwork for every job, and you are always welcome to ask to see our waste carrier registration before we start.

We avoid the busiest summer days in Bay Town wherever possible, and early starts help keep the lanes clear for residents and visitors.
